Sales Associate


1. Develop positive relationships with municipal water superintendents and workers, engineers and utility contractor personnel.
2. Become familiar with waterworks equipment. Make material lists from engineering plans and specs and produce price quotations for waterworks projects.
3. Work with management to develop special pricing for waterworks projects.
4. Assist customers with problems and enter orders into the computer system for customers who call, email or walk in.
5. Negotiate with vendors for competitive prices and terms.
6. Become familiar with water metering systems and their applications. Make sales presentations, as needed, to municipal and rural water district personnel.
7. Coordinate the timely delivery of material for waterworks projects.
8. Follow up on quotations to determine the outcome of bids.
9. Expedite orders as needed.
10. Call on customers one to two days per month to develop relationships with municipal and contractor personnel.
11. Research, locate and price non-stock material when requested by customers.
12. Order material for inventory. Monitor adequate on-hand amounts and inventory turns.
13. Help promote products and services offered by Salina Supply Company.

Experience & Training:

Retail or wholesale sales experience and some computer experience is required. Knowledge of the waterworks and utility industry is helpful. Training will include some time in a warehouse setting also inside and outside sales settings.


Minimum to apply: High school diploma or GED. Some college preferred.

Background Information

The Salina Supply Company is a wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, pumping equipment and waterworks supplies to the western two-thirds of the state of Kansas. The company was established in 1919 and is one of the largest independent plumbing and HVAC distributors in Kansas. Salina Supply has been a strong member of the local Salina economy since it was established and is locally owned and managed.

Salina Supply handles some of the most prominent product lines in the plumbing, HVAC and waterworks industry and sells primarily to plumbing contractors, heating and air conditioning contractors, institutions (schools & hospitals, etc.), and municipalities or utility contractors. We operate from our stocking location in Salina and have six outside salespeople who cover territories from locations in Northwest, North Central, Southwest and South Central Kansas.

Salina Supplys regular inventory consists of over 8,000 items that are on-hand in the Salina warehouse and over 3,000 component parts items to support existing products in the field. We also pride ourselves in being able to locate and procure many thousands of special order items that we do not keep in our Salina warehouse. We also maintain a plumbing showroom with fixtures on display including: whirlpools, drop-in and pedestal lavatories, showers, tub-shower combinations, shower doors, kitchen sinks and dozens of faucets.
