MAINTENANCE WORKER III
Public Works/Flood Control
City of Salina, Kansas
Duties: Serves as lead worker, acting as supervisor in the Flood Control Foremans absence; performs a variety of skilled & semi-skilled work in the operation, repair & maintenance of the levee system, ancillary flood control structures, & facilities; performs precautionary & emergency pumping of ponds or other bodies of water during floods & other high-water events; operates & maintains light to heavy duty equipment; loads & hauls equipment, sand, gravel, asphalt & other construction & maintenance materials; services & maintains flood control sluice & flap gates & pumps; assists in planning & coordination for maintenance projects; services & performs minor repairs to equipment; performs minor welding; cleans, repairs & maintains ditches, flumes & drainage channels; maintains ponds, rip-rap & other areas; assists in hike & bike trail construction & maintenance; applies pesticides, mows & trims trees, grass, weeds & shrubbery; performs snow & ice removal operations.
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: Three (3) years or more of progressively responsible experience in the operation of light to medium trucks & equipment in construction work, maintenance, or related activities.
Requirements: Must live within 40 minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements at hire.
Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Machines, Tools, Equipment Used: Backhoe, boom mowers, calculator, chain saw, computer, confined space entry equipment, dump truck, excavators, front-end loaders, gate opener, grapple attachment, mechanics hand tools, motor grader, mower, pole saw, power rake, pull-behind mowers, rollers, salt spreader, snow plow, spray trailer, tractors, weed-eater, wood chipper.
Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Starting Pay: $21.96-23.06/hr. DOQ EOE
Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6pm and before 6am
Paid Time Off:
48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
96 hours of sick leave during first year.
