Position Summary
The Respiratory Therapist will become part of a Clinical Care Team, working with Nurse Practitioners and Physicians to manage the overall health of a defined group of patients in collaboration with the patients primary care and specialist physicians. The Respiratory Therapist will be accountable to manage the patient experience and care for a defined panel of patients in and near the community around them. The job requires daily travel to patient homes and a reliable vehicle is a necessity. Successful candidates for this position will understand and be comfortable with mobile technology and have a deep commitment to exceptional patient care. Strong knowledge of pulmonary disease and other chronic medical conditions are the keys to success in this role. Duties will include conducting in home patient clinical assessments, follow-up home and telephonic assessments of patients, providing patient education, maintaining patient compliance to a treatment plan, conducting routine diagnostics such as spirometry, and charting assessments in Spiras systems. This is a personally and professionally rewarding position and it allows the colleague an opportunity to provide health care services at the top of their training. The position is home-based and affords some flexibility in work hours with the constant focus being patient focused care.

Duties and Responsibilities
Restores patients pulmonary function, alleviates pain, and supports life by planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy
Meets patients goals and needs and provides quality care by conducting pulmonary function tests, assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results, and contributing to respiratory therapy treatment plans
Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants, operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators
Administers respiratory therapy treatments by performing bronchopulmonary drainage, assisting with breathing exercises, and monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes
Directs treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants
Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating patients progress and recommending adjustments and modifications
Consults with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers in support of the patient treatment plan and may contribute to patient treatment plans and discussions
Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs
Recommends and/or provides assistive equipment and outpatient or home health follow-up programs
Accurate and timely documentation of patient care and services per policy
Maintains safe, secure, and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions

Qualifications
Any applicant must be currently licensed in the state of Kansas.
Associate degree with major in Respiratory Therapy
Two years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
Six months of experience within in the last two years or completion of a clinical rotation within the last year in critical care/intensive care environment, to include care of respiratory needs of acutely ill patients
Valid state Respiratory Therapist license (must meet education requirement(s) for state licensure)
Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification

Preferred Qualifications
Registered Respiratory Therapist active license (state specific)
Experience with cardiac or pulmonology specialties
Experience coordinating care with health plans and health systems
Experience with advance directives and palliative care
