UTILITIES DEPARTMENT
DEPUTY UTILITIES DIRECTOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Acts as Director of Utilities in Directors absence; oversees & manages the operations of water (distribution & treatment) & wastewater (collection & treatment) systems under the direction of the Director of Utilities; supervises staff; performs engineering & financial analysis; assists with preparation of operating & capital budgets; reviews engineering submittals; gathers & maintains information to support periodic & special reports; attends or conducts staff, committee, & other professional meetings; makes presentations to City Commission & other boards & commissions; serves on the Citys Development Review Team (DRT). Education: Bachelors degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET accredited university or a closely related engineering field; must possess a Professional Engineer License, issued by the State of Kansas, or have the ability to obtain registration within six months if licensed in another state. Experience: Eight (8) years of progressively responsible engineering experience with water & wastewater functions; four (4) years of supervisory or administrative experience. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. Hours: Monday Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Pay: $70,755-118,322/yr. DOQ

WASTEWATER PLANT SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Supervises 10-13 plant operators & personnel engaged in a wide variety of work involving the operation & maintenance of an advanced wastewater treatment facility & related equipment; prepares employee shift schedules & work assignments; evaluates personnel performance as required; assists in preparing, analyzing, & filing of paper & digital operational, state, & federal reports; assists in long-range planning, budget preparation, & budget control; utilizes computer based SCADA & asset/preventative software program as necessary to complete assignments; maintains current knowledge of KDHE & Federal wastewater treatment regulations; functions as liaison with maintenance, laboratory, & operations personnel to assure the treated wastewater meets established standards of quality; reviews operation, lab, & regulatory reports; administers a safety program; investigates accidents & recommends preventative actions; maintains & conducts effective system & equipment maintenance programs. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must possess a Kansas Class IV Wastewater Operator Certificate or obtain certification within one (1) year after Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) examination eligibility. Experience: Five (5) years of progressive experience in advanced wastewater treatment or related work preferred; two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; performs overtime & responds to after-hours emergencies as needed. Starting pay: $20.85-23.35/hr. (Full pay range: $20.85-33.27/hr.)

WATER PLANT SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: Until filled- Utilities-Duties: Supervises the operation & maintenance of the City of Salinas Water Treatment Plant; performs a wide variety of work in the operation & maintenance of water treatment facilities, including lime softening water treatment plant, wells, booster pump stations, water storage facilities, & river intake; supervises 12-15 water plant operators & personnel; prepares employee shift schedules & work assignments; evaluates personnel performance as required; assists in preparing, analyzing, & filing of paper & digital operational, state, & federal reports; assists in long-range planning, budget preparation, & budget control; utilizes computer based software as necessary to complete assignments; administers safety program; investigates accidents & recommends preventative actions; acts as liaison with maintenance, laboratory, & operations personnel to assure the treated water meets established standards of quality. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must possess a Kansas Class IV Water Supply System Operator Certificate, or be able to obtain certification within one (1) year after Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) examination eligibility. Experience: Five (5) years of progressive experience in lime softening water treatment or related work preferred; two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. Starting pay: $20.85 -23.35/hr. (Full pay range: $20.85-33.27/hr.)

UTILITY TECHNICIAN II
(Design / Construction Observation)
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities- Duties: Performs technical engineering designs, construction observations, & GIS application duties; designs, surveys & observes construction for the installation of sanitary sewer, water mains, & other public utility projects; prepares conceptual designs & project estimates. Education: Associates degree in Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology, Geography with GIS certification, or related field. Experience: Two years technical civil engineering work and/or any combination of education or experience. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. Starting pay: $18.94-21.21/hr. (Full pay range: $18.94-30.24/hr.)

UTILITY WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities/Water & Wastewater-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas Class A commercial drivers license (CDL) with tanker & air brake endorsements, or obtain within three (3) months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Starting pay: $17.16-19.22/hr. (Full pay range: $17.16-27.37/hr.)

WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATOR I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Performs skilled work in the operation of an advanced wastewater treatment plant, collection system; monitors & operates motors, pumps, meters & related equipment; repairs & performs preventive maintenance on equipment; utilizes monitoring equipment & records information shown; draws samples for laboratory analysis; monitors & adjusts flow rates; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting & mowing. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. possession of or obtain a Kansas Class I Wastewater Facility Operator Certificate within two (2) years from date of hire. Experience: Two (2) years mechanical & electrical equipment maintenance or related work. Requirements: Must live within 40 minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. Variable shifts: Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 12:00 a.m. midnight to 12:00 p.m. noon; 12:00 p.m. noon to 12:00 a.m. midnight. Starting pay: $17.16-19.22/hr. (Full pay range: $17.16-27.37/hr.)
