PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT
PARK TECHNICIAN (BALL FIELDS)
Application deadline: Until filled-Parks & Recreation/Ball Fields-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in ball field operations; dragging, watering, chalking, tamping & other ball field preparations; completes construction & maintenance of athletic field facilities, public buildings & other city areas & grounds; operates tractor with attachments; operates power tools, blowers, sweepers, edgers, chain saws, trimmers, clippers, sprayers, rakes, shovels & variety of other equipment or vehicles; services & performs minor repairs to equipment; installs, operates, maintains ball field equipment & in-ground sprinkler systems; able to identify nuisance weeds & takes appropriate action with chemicals to counteract; provides custodial services for facilities & grounds, including cleaning restrooms, dugouts & removal of trash; opens & closes facilities; meets with seasonal staff to assign daily duties. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.. Experience: One-two year's ball field maintenance experience &/or staff & facilities supervision; knowledge of baseball, softball, & soccer fields such as dimensions & laying them out. Requirements: Must live within 40 minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. with evening & weekend shifts as assigned. Starting pay: $14.86-16.64/hr. (Full pay range: $14.86-23.73/hr.)

PARK TECHNICIAN (PARKS)
Application deadline: Until filled-Parks & Recreation/Parks & Forestry-Duties: Prepares & maintains ball fields, golf course, recreation facilities, parks, cemetery, buildings, medians, & other public facilities; maintains lawns, shrubbery, & trees including planting, watering, trimming, mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerification, top dressing & weed & pest control; plans & performs work in seeding, planting & maintaining trees & shrubs; applies fertilizers & pesticides as required; recognizes plant diseases & takes appropriate action to counteract; installation, operation, maintenance & repairs of in-ground sprinkler systems; installs & maintains playground equipment; operates trucks, mowers, & other light equipment; operates tractor & attachments (medium sized loaders, rototiller, post hole digger), power movers, blowers, sweepers, edgers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, clippers, sprayers, & other equipment or vehicles; makes minor repairs; performs routine maintenance & equipment safety inspection. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One year work experience in the areas of general building & facility maintenance and/or landscape maintenance. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Hours: September-June M-F 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; SAT-SUN 2-4 hours on rotation (each day on rotation, 1X every couple of months); June-September M-F 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. SAT-SUN 8 hours per day on rotation (1X every couple of months). Starting pay: $14.86-16.64/hr. (Full pay range: $14.86-23.73/hr.)

CUSTODIAN I (FULL & PART-TIME)
Application deadline: Until filled-Parks & Recreation / Buildings: Duties: Performs janitorial duties inside & outside city buildings & other public facilities; cleans, maintains, sweeps, scrubs, strips & waxes hard surfaces; minor construction & maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces; maintains equipment & materials; performs visual checks for repairs on all mechanical systems, buildings, & grounds; washes windows & walls; dusts & polishes furniture, sills, blinds, woodwork, light fixtures, etc.; vacuums, shampoos, removes spots & stains in carpets; replaces light bulbs & fluorescent tubes; empties & cleans waste receptacles; cleans & disinfects restrooms & kitchens; cleans grounds by picking up paper & trash; must raise, lower & maintain flags; shovels snow as assigned; locks & unlocks doors, windows & security systems; maintains inventory of cleaning equipment & supplies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Minimum of one year experience with custodial/janitorial related work; one year experience stripping, buffing & burnishing hard surface floors; must be self-motivated & be able to work with little-to-no supervision. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes’ drive time; must possess a valid Kansas driver's license. Hours: Multiple shifts available. Pay: $13.00-13.70/hr.
