FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department- Duties: Provides advanced life support services & renders medical treatment in emergency situations; engages in fire suppression & fire prevention activities to protect & safeguard lives & property. FIREFIGHTER / EMT

COMMUNITY RELATIONS SPECIALIST
Application deadline: Until filled (first review 02/21/2020)-Development Services/Community Relations- Duties: Plans, organizes, & conducts workshops & seminars designed to provide Equal Opportunity information to all protected classes; conducts intake, interviews & investigations involving housing, employment & public accommodation discrimination; gathers & analyzes evidence, data, & relevant facts in complex cases; applies applicable laws to specific allegations; prepares documentation of facts for possible prosecution or conciliation; prepares clear & concise oral & written technical reports; initiates, plans, develops & maintains records systems; prepares & analyzes statistical data; prepares & administers grants; coordinates with other agencies as needed. WATER PLANT SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: Until filled- Duties: Supervises the operation & maintenance of the City of Salina’s Water Treatment Plant; performs a wide variety of work in the operation & maintenance of water treatment facilities, including lime softening water treatment plant, wells, booster pump stations, water storage facilities, & river intake; supervises 12-15 water plant operators & personnel; prepares employee shift schedules & work assignments; evaluates personnel performance as required; assists in preparing, analyzing, & filing of paper & digital operational, state, & federal reports; assists in long-range planning, budget preparation, & budget control; utilizes computer based software as necessary to complete assignments; administers safety program; investigates accidents & recommends preventative actions; acts as liaison with maintenance, laboratory, & operations personnel to assure the treated water meets established standards of quality. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must possess a Kansas Class IV Water Supply System Operator Certificate, or be able to obtain certification within one (1) year after Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) examination eligibility. Experience: Five (5) years of progressive experience in lime softening water treatment or related work preferred; two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Starting pay: $20.44-22.89/hr. (Full pay range: $20.44-32.62/hr.)

UTILITY WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/ water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Starting pay: $16.82-18.84/hr. (Full pay range: $16.82-26.83/hr.)

911 DISPATCHER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Responsible for dispatching all police, sheriff, fire, & ambulance operations in the city & county; operates a two-way communications system; monitors a computerized emergency system; types a variety of data into a computerized database. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: In-service training program; typing speed 40 WPM minimum. Requirements: Must be minimum twenty-one (21) years of age; must live within 40 minutes response time; must successfully complete in-service training program in communications related curriculum; must pass selection process that includes assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, & thorough background checks. Hours: Twelve hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with every other weekend off. Examination: Mandatory completion of computerized Dispatcher examination. PARK TECHNICIAN
Application deadline: TH 02/27/2020-Parks & Recreation/Parks-Duties: Performs manual labor in the maintenance of lawns, shrubbery, & trees that includes aerification, edging, fertilizing, mowing, seeding, planting, top dressing, trimming, watering, weed & pest control; maintains ball fields, cemetery, golf course, medians, parks, recreation facilities & other public facilities; recognizes plant diseases & takes appropriate action to counteract; applies fertilizers & pesticides as required; performs work in the installation, operation, maintenance & repair of in-ground sprinkler systems; installs & maintains playground equipment; operates trucks & the following equipment: blowers, chain saws, clippers, edgers, hedge trimmers, medium sized loaders, mowers, post hole diggers, power movers, rototillers, sprayers, sweepers, tractors & attachments, & other light equipment; performs routine maintenance & equipment safety inspection; makes minor repairs; leads work crews; provides custodial services for parks & facilities that includes cleaning & repairing floors, restrooms, & removal of trash; maintains pool facilities that include: cleaning, treating water using chemicals, making adjustments & repairs to pool & auxiliary equipment; opens & closes graves; resets headstones; works on special projects & assignments. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One (1) year work experience in the areas of general forestry, tree care, and/or landscape maintenance. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Hours: Varied schedule. Starting pay: $14.57-16.32/hr. (Full pay range: $14.57-23.26/hr.)

SANITATION WORKER / DRIVER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks including refuse/recycling trucks & other trucks over 27 ton capacity; dumps refuse carts; lifts heavy cans of refuse; picks up brush with brush truck; makes special pick-ups for discarded furniture & other refuse; keeps track of time for billing customers; checks oil; washes trucks; performs minor repairs to equipment used; cleans inside of garage; makes repairs to refuse carts; prepares minimal records of own activities; supervises & uses equipment of materials requiring care to assure against breakdown; snow & ice removal. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Starting pay: $13.85-15.51/hr. (Full pay range: $13.85-22.11/hr.)

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies; snow & ice removal. CUSTODIAN I (PART-TIME)
Application deadline: TH 02/20/2020 -Parks & Recreation/Buildings-Duties: Performs janitorial duties inside & outside city buildings & other public facilities; cleans, maintains, sweeps, scrubs, strips & waxes hard surfaces; minor construction & maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces; maintains equipment & materials; performs visual checks for repairs on all mechanical systems, buildings, & grounds; washes windows & walls; dusts & polishes furniture, sills, blinds, woodwork, light fixtures, etc.; vacuums, shampoos, removes spots & stains in carpets; replaces light bulbs & fluorescent tubes; empties & cleans waste receptacles; cleans & disinfects restrooms & kitchens; cleans grounds by picking up paper & trash; must raise, lower & maintain flags; shovels snow as assigned; locks & unlocks doors, windows & security systems; maintains inventory of cleaning equipment & supplies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Minimum of one year experience with custodial/janitorial related work; one year experience stripping, buffing & burnishing hard surface floors; must be self-motivated & be able to work with little to no supervision. Requirements: Must live within 40-minute drive time; must possess a valid Kansas driver's license. Hours: Thursday to Monday; 20-28 hours/week. Starting pay: $10.33-11.57/hr. (Full pay range: $10.33-16.49/hr.)
