ANIMAL SERVICES MANAGER
Application deadline: TH 12/27/2018 or until filled-Parks & Recreation/Animal Shelter-Duties: Acts as Chief Animal Control Officer; supervises & monitors the personnel & equipment resources of Animal Services; coordinates Animal Services activities & functions with outside agencies, local government, & other Health Department divisions to facilitate the goals & objectives of the division; monitors revenues & expenses & assists with budget preparation & management; applies for & administers grants; confers with state & local agencies & officials concerning animal care & control methods, procedures & issues. Education: Associates degree; must obtain National Animal Control Association (NACA) Modules A & B or similar certification; must obtain Euthanasia certification within one year of hire date; must maintain certification in CPR & completion of NIMS training. Experience: Five years of full-time experience in animal control, law, or code/ordinance enforcement or related work preferred with two years supervisory experience in a customer service environment. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $48,290-77,103/yr.

FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department- Duties: Provides advanced life support services & renders medical treatment in emergency situations; engages in fire suppression & fire prevention activities to protect & safeguard lives & property. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: National Registry or Kansas Paramedic certification & maintain certification including current Advanced Pediatric Life Support Certification & ACLS; Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within prior year; current written Fire Service Exam with a score of 70% or better within the prior two years; Firefighter 1 & 2 with Hazmat Operations certifications in the State of Kansas or equivalent International Fire Service Training Association with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Certification; NIMS 100,200,700,800. Requirements: Must be eighteen (18) years of age at time of appointment; must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B driver’s license, or obtain within (1) one year of appointment; must pass the city’s pre-employment requirements relative to background check, pre-employment physical, & drug screening prior to final job offer. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Pay: $45,689-72,975/yr.

POLICE OFFICER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salina’s diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one year of appointment. Selection process includes: Written test, three assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analysis examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Written test is held the 3rd Saturday of each month. Starting pay: $43,472/yr.

FIREFIGHTER/EMT
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department-Duties: Responds to fire alarms & other emergency calls to protect life & property by combating, extinguishing & preventing fires; gives basic life support care to sick or injured persons; participates in fire prevention programs, inspection, training activities, maintenance of fire & EMS apparatus & equipment & stations. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. UTILITY TECHNICIAN II
(DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION OBSERVATION)
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities- Duties: Performs technical engineering designs, construction observations, and GIS application duties; designs, surveys & observes construction for the installation of sanitary sewer, water mains, & other public utility projects; prepares conceptual designs & project estimates. Education: Associate’s degree in Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology, Geography with GIS certification, or related field. Experience: Two years technical civil engineering work and/or any combination of education or experience. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $18.21-20.40/hr.

UTILITY WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Starting pay: $16.49/hr.

SANITATION WORKER / DRIVER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: One year sanitation work or experience with small trucks & light equipment in construction, maintenance, or related activities; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Pay: $13.58-21.68/hr.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Application deadline: TH 12/27/2018 or until filled-Arts & Humanities–Duties: Performs wide variety of clerical & administrative duties; assists with databases & recordkeeping; assists with Smoky Hill River Festival, Arts & Humanities, other projects & community relations functions. Education: High school graduate or G.E.D. Experience: Office management, typing, computers, database management & other clerical functions with at least four years of progressively responsible clerical work or experience in arts, education or related fields. Requirements: Strong, effective communications skills; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $12.94-20.65/hr.

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One year construction or maintenance work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements. Work Type: Very heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Workweek generally Monday - Friday. Pay: $12.94-20.65/hr.
