FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department- Duties: Provides advanced life support services & renders medical treatment in emergency situations; engages in fire suppression & fire prevention activities to protect & safeguard lives & property. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: National Registry or Kansas Paramedic certification & maintain certification including current Advanced Pediatric Life Support Certification & ACLS; Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within prior year; current written Fire Service Exam with a score of 70% or better within the prior two years; Firefighter 1 & 2 with Hazmat Operations certifications in the State of Kansas or equivalent International Fire Service Training Association with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Certification; NIMS 100,200,700,800. Requirements: Must be eighteen (18) years of age at time of appointment; must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B driver’s license, or obtain within (1) one year of appointment; must pass the city’s pre-employment requirements relative to background check, pre-employment physical, & drug screening prior to final job offer. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job.

POLICE OFFICER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salina’s diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one year of appointment. Selection process includes: Written test, three assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analysis examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Written test is held the 3rd Saturday of each month. Starting pay: $43,472-48,689/yr. (Full pay range: $43,472-69,410/yr.)

FIREFIGHTER / EMT
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department-Duties: Responds to fire alarms & other emergency calls to protect life & property by combating, extinguishing & preventing fires; gives basic life support care to sick or injured persons; participates in fire prevention programs, inspection, training activities, maintenance of fire & EMS apparatus & equipment & stations. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: National Registry or Kansas EMT certification & maintain certification; Current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within prior year; Current written Fire Service Exam with a score of 70% or better within the prior two years; Firefighter 1 & 2 with Hazmat Operations certifications in the State of Kansas or equivalent International Fire Service Training Association with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Certification; NIMS 100,200,700,800. UTILITY WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/ water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Starting pay: $16.49-18.47/hr. (Full pay range: $16.49-26.30/hr.)

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COORDINATOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Oversees Household Hazardous Waste Facility operations; performs inspections; enforces state, federal & city government regulations pertaining to solid waste disposal, recycling, household hazardous waste & related environmental programs; maintains all city & state required permits; performs public education on solid waste issues; prepares loads of household hazardous waste for shipment to authorized disposal sites. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; courses in biology, chemistry, or related fields; must be able to acquire & maintain a KDHE approved 24 hour-training per K.A.R. 28-29-1102e. Experience: Must have the ability to perform difficult mathematical calculations accurately; ability to organize information for concise written & oral presentation; ability to speak in public; ability to operate computer hardware & software including graphics & software packages, i.e. Microsoft Office products. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; extensive walking required. Hours: Monday-Wednesday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday 7:30 to 12:00 p.m.; schedule requires some Saturday hours. Starting pay: $15.73- 17.62/hr. 911 DISPATCHER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Responsible for dispatching all police, sheriff, fire, & ambulance operations in the city & county; operates a two-way communications system; monitors a computerized emergency system; types a variety of data into a computerized database. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: In-service training program; typing speed 40 WPM minimum. Requirements: Must be minimum twenty-one (21) years of age; must live within 40 minutes response time; must successfully complete in-service training program in communications related curriculum; must pass selection process that includes assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, & thorough background checks. Hours: Twelve hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with every other weekend off. Examination: Mandatory completion of computerized Dispatcher examination. SANITATION WORKER / DRIVER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: One year sanitation work or experience with small trucks & light equipment in construction, maintenance, or related activities; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Starting pay: $13.58-15.21/hr. (Full pay range: $13.58-21.68/hr.)

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One year construction or maintenance work preferred. CUSTODIAN I (PART-TIME)
Application deadline: Until filled-Parks & Recreation/Buildings-Duties: Performs janitorial duties inside & outside city buildings & other public facilities; cleans, maintains, sweeps, scrubs, strips & waxes hard surfaces; minor construction & maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces; maintains equipment & materials; performs visual checks for repairs on all mechanical systems, buildings, & grounds; washes windows & walls; dusts & polishes furniture, sills, blinds, woodwork, light fixtures, etc.; vacuums, shampoos, removes spots & stains in carpets; replaces light bulbs & fluorescent tubes; empties & cleans waste receptacles; cleans & disinfects restrooms & kitchens; cleans grounds by picking up paper & trash; must raise, lower & maintain flags; shovels snow as assigned; locks & unlocks doors, windows & security systems; maintains inventory of cleaning equipment & supplies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Minimum of one year experience with custodial/janitorial related work; one year experience stripping, buffing & burnishing hard surface floors; must be self-motivated & be able to work with little to no supervision. Requirements: Must live within 40-minute drive time; must possess a valid Kansas driver's license. Hours: Thursday - Monday; 20-28 hours/week. Starting pay: $10.13-11.35/hr. (Full pay range: $10.13-16.17/hr.)
