FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department- Duties: Provides advanced life support services & renders medical treatment in emergency situations; engages in fire suppression & fire prevention activities to protect & safeguard lives & property. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: National Registry or Kansas Paramedic certification & maintain certification including current Advanced Pediatric Life Support Certification & ACLS; Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within prior year; current written Fire Service Exam with a score of 70% or better within the prior two years; Firefighter 1 & 2 with Hazmat Operations certifications in the State of Kansas or equivalent International Fire Service Training Association with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Certification; NIMS 100,200,700,800. Requirements: Must be eighteen (18) years of age at time of appointment; must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B driver’s license, or obtain within (1) one year of appointment; must pass the city’s pre-employment requirements relative to background check, pre-employment physical, & drug screening prior to final job offer. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Pay: $45,689-72,975/yr.

POLICE OFFICER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salina’s diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one year of appointment. Selection process includes: Written test, three assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analysis examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Written test is held the 3rd Saturday of each month. Starting pay: $43,472/yr.

FIREFIGHTER / EMT

WATER PLANT OPERATOR I
Application deadline: TH 05/23/2019–Utilities-Duties: Performs skilled work in the operation of an advanced water treatment plant & operation of related equipment; monitors & operates motors, pumps, chemical feeders & related equipment; operates valves; utilizes monitoring equipment & records information shown; keeps daily log of shift operations; collects samples for laboratory tests & assists with analysis; performs preventive maintenance on equipment; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting & mowing; receives & addresses customer concerns. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must possess Kansas Class I Water Supply System Operator Certificate within one year of KDHE exam eligibility. Experience: Two years in maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Works on shift: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; midnight to noon; noon to midnight. Pay: $16.49/hr.

UTILITY WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Starting pay: $16.49/hr.

911 DISPATCHER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Responsible for dispatching all police, sheriff, fire, & ambulance operations in the city & county; operates a two-way communications system; monitors a computerized emergency system; types a variety of data into a computerized database. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: In-service training program; typing speed 40 WPM minimum. Requirements: Must be minimum twenty-one (21) years of age; must live within 40 minutes response time; must successfully complete in-service training program in communications related curriculum; must pass selection process that includes assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, & thorough background checks. Hours: Twelve hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with every other weekend off. Starting pay: $15.73/hr. SANITATION WORKER / DRIVER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: One year sanitation work or experience with small trucks & light equipment in construction, maintenance, or related activities; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Pay: $13.58-21.68/hr.

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One year construction or maintenance work preferred. FLOOD CONTROL WORKER (TEMPORARY/SEASONAL)
Application deadline: TH 05/30/2019- Public Works/Flood Control-Duties: Performs maintenance on city flood control system including tree trimming, weed removal, trash pickup, tractor mowing, general labor, & equipment maintenance. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: Previous tree trimming, mowing, equipment maintenance or related work preferred. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license; minimum of 18 yrs. of age. Hours: Position works June-August M-F 6:30 am - 3:00 pm. Pay: $10.00/hr.

PARK & FACILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER (LONG-TERM PART-TIME)
Application deadline: Until filled-Parks & Recreation/Parks-Duties: Prepares & maintains parks, cemetery, buildings, medians, & other public facilities; performs manual labor in the care, minor construction & maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces; provides custodial services, including cleaning & repairing floors, restrooms, & removal of trash; maintains park grounds including seeding, mowing, watering, aerification, top dressing, planting flowers, weed removal, painting, fence repair, dirt work & related duties; maintains lawns, shrubbery, & trees including planting, watering, trimming, mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerification, top dressing & weed & pest control; operates trucks, mowers, & other light equipment; services & performs minor repairs to equipment; performs routine maintenance & equipment safety inspection; applies practices relating to safe equipment operation & maintenance. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience Preferred: One (1) year work experience in general building & facility maintenance and/or landscape maintenance; grounds maintenance & equipment operation experience desired, minor construction, maintenance work, mowing, or tree care; ability to perform work using equipment & tools utilized in parks & facilities maintenance, landscape maintenance, & repair work. Equipment: Back hoes, chippers, dump trucks, man-lifts, medium sized loaders, post hole digger, precision mowers, rototiller, seeders & top dressers; tractors & attachments, utility vehicles, vehicles. Hand Tools: Chain saws, blowers, power tools, hedge trimmers, sprayers, edgers. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; extensive amount of walking required; operates vehicles, equipment & tools requiring moderate ability; frequent exposure to chemicals, fertilizers, equipment, vehicles, sharp objects & height; frequent exposure to dust; occasional exposure to fumes & odors. Dates of employment: April 1 - Oct 31. Hours: Monday-Friday (40 hours); may include weekend shifts for snow/debris removal due to extreme weather events. Pay: $8.25 -13.00/hr.
