COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY

COMPUTER TECHNICIAN II
Application deadline: Until filled-Computer Technology-Duties: Provides general computer support services for Police & Fire Department employees; assists in problem-solving of technical & operational difficulties; identifies problems & provides potential solutions; assists in the implementation of desktop computers; operates host computer system; configures devices for access to host computer system; loads & configures software. Education: Associates degree in computer sciences or technology. Experience: Two (2) years desktop computer hardware & software installation. Requirements: Must live within 40-minute response time; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT

DEPUTY FINANCE DIRECTOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Finance-Duties: Functions as acting Finance Director in the director’s absence; manages the department’s administration division of 6-8 clerical & financial accounting employees; develops & establishes controls necessary to assure the accuracy & security of all records & funds; reviews all disbursements; notes variances from authorized practices; plays key role in preparation of the annual city budget, comprehensive annual financial report & audit; plays key role in the preparation of the capital improvements program; prepares internal interim financial reports & long range financial projections; manages special assessments in coordination with the City Clerk & City Engineer; manages project accounting & reporting system; performs additional duties as assigned. PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT

CUSTODIAN I (FULL & PART-TIME)
Application deadline: Until filled-Parks & Recreation/Buildings- Duties: Performs janitorial duties inside & outside city buildings & other public facilities; cleans, maintains, sweeps, scrubs, strips & waxes hard surfaces; minor construction & maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces; maintains equipment & materials; performs visual checks for repairs on all mechanical systems, buildings, & grounds; washes windows & walls; dusts & polishes furniture, sills, blinds, woodwork, light fixtures, etc.; vacuums, shampoos, removes spots & stains in carpets; replaces light bulbs & fluorescent tubes; empties & cleans waste receptacles; cleans & disinfects restrooms & kitchens; cleans grounds by picking up paper & trash; must raise, lower & maintain flags; shovels snow as assigned; locks & unlocks doors, windows & security systems; maintains inventory of cleaning equipment & supplies. Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience with custodial/janitorial related work; one (1) year experience stripping, buffing & burnishing hard surface floors; must be self-motivated & be able to work with little-to-no supervision. POLICE DEPARTMENT

POLICE OFFICER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salina’s diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one (1) year of appointment. Selection process includes: Examination, three (3) assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analysis examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. 911 DISPATCHER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Responsible for dispatching all police, sheriff, fire, & ambulance operations in the city & county; operates a two-way communications system; monitors a computerized emergency system; types a variety of data into a computerized database. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: In-service training program; typing speed 40 WPM minimum. Requirements: Must be minimum twenty-one (21) years of age; must live within 40 minutes response time; must successfully complete in-service training program in communications related curriculum; must pass selection process that includes assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, & thorough background checks. Hours: Twelve (12) hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with every other weekend off. Starting pay: $16.04-17.97/hr. (Full pay range: $16.04-25.60/hr.) PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works- Duties: Directs, manages & coordinates the City of Salina’s Public Works department comprised of seven operating divisions including Central Garage, Engineering, Flood Control, Landfill, Sanitation, Streets & Traffic Control. Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, business administration, public administration, or closely related field; a master’s degree may be substituted for some work experience; registration as a Professional Engineer in Kansas preferred but not required. Experience: Ten (10) years of progressively responsible management & engineering or public works experience, including experience with fleet management, public works engineering, flood control systems, solid waste programs, traffic control & safety. Requirements: Must live within the corporate limits of the city; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Starting pay: $83,882 – 93,952/yr. (Full pay range: $83,882-133,917/yr.)

LANDFILL OPERATOR I
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Landfill-Duties: Performs skilled & semi-skilled work in the maintenance & operation of the City of Salina’s municipal solid waste landfill; operates & maintains medium & heavy equipment such as compactors, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, self-propelled scrapers & similar equipment; assists in planning fill cells; moves, levels, compacts & covers solid waste at landfill; looks for & prevents hazardous waste from entering into landfill; mows grounds; maintains landfill roads; extinguishes fires at landfill; performs maintenance checks on equipment & makes repairs; welds; prepares minimal records of own activities, including burial logs & special wastes; operates the scale house as assigned; performs data entry into the Waste Works program. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Three years of progressively responsible construction & maintenance work operating light & medium equipment; one year of experience operating heavy equipment; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; must have ability to operate office machines such as a credit card machine. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake & tanker endorsement, or obtain within three months from date of appointment. Hours: Tuesday-Friday (6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) Starting pay: $15.28 -17.11/hr. (Full pay range $15.28-24.40/hr.)

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of skilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies; snow & ice removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One (1) year construction or maintenance work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or must be able to obtain CDL within three (3) months from the start date of employment. SANITATION WORKER / DRIVER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks including refuse/recycling trucks & other trucks over 27 ton capacity; dumps refuse carts; lifts heavy cans of refuse; picks up brush with brush truck; makes special pick-ups for discarded furniture & other refuse; keeps track of time for billing customers; checks oil; washes trucks; performs minor repairs to equipment used; cleans inside of garage; makes repairs to refuse carts; prepares minimal records of own activities; supervises & uses equipment of materials requiring care to assure against breakdown; snow & ice removal. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Starting pay: $14.57-16.32/hr. (Full pay range: $14.57-23.26/hr.)

UTILITIES DEPARTMENT

DEPUTY UTILITIES DIRECTOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Acts as Director of Utilities in director’s absence; oversees & manages the operations of water (distribution & treatment) & wastewater (collection & treatment) systems under the direction of the Director of Utilities; supervises staff; performs engineering & financial analysis; assists with preparation of operating & capital budgets; reviews engineering submittals; gathers & maintains information to support periodic & special reports; attends or conducts staff, committee, & other professional meetings; makes presentations to City Commission & other boards & commissions; serves on the City’s Development Review Team (DRT). Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET accredited university or a closely related engineering field; must possess a Professional Engineer License, issued by the State of Kansas, or have the ability to obtain registration within six (6) months if licensed in another state. Experience: Eight (8) years of progressively responsible engineering experience with water & wastewater functions; four (4) years of supervisory or administrative experience. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Starting pay: $69,368-77,692/yr. (Full pay range: $69,368-116,002/yr.)

WATER PLANT SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: Until filled- Duties: Supervises the operation & maintenance of the City of Salina’s Water Treatment Plant; performs a wide variety of work in the operation & maintenance of water treatment facilities, including lime softening water treatment plant, wells, booster pump stations, water storage facilities, & river intake; supervises 12-15 water plant operators & personnel; prepares employee shift schedules & work assignments; evaluates personnel performance as required; assists in preparing, analyzing, & filing of paper & digital operational, state, & federal reports; assists in long-range planning, budget preparation, & budget control; utilizes computer based software as necessary to complete assignments; administers safety program; investigates accidents & recommends preventative actions; acts as liaison with maintenance, laboratory, & operations personnel to assure the treated water meets established standards of quality. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must possess a Kansas Class IV Water Supply System Operator Certificate, or be able to obtain certification within one (1) year after Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) examination eligibility. Experience: Five (5) years of progressive experience in lime softening water treatment or related work preferred; two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Starting pay: $20.44-22.89/hr. (Full pay range: $20.44-32.62/hr.)

SALINA FIRE DEPARTMENT

FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
