PROCESS IMPROVEMENT DIRECTOR
Application deadline: Until filled–City Manager's Office-Duties: Responsible for the organization’s operational performance management & continuous improvement function utilizing Lean & other related methods, which includes creation of program design, performance & process review, development of standards & practices, training & coaching, reporting & coordination with other departments. Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field with formal training in Lean methods; strong, applied knowledge of Lean methods & processes with a Lean Certification or equivalent certification preferred. Experience: Six years of experience in a mid-sized to large organizational setting, including “hands-on” experience with application of Lean tools; three years of lead process improvement & project management experience; supervisory experience preferred; strong proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel & PowerPoint. Requirements: Must live within the corporate limits of the city; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $66,022-105,403/yr.

FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department- Duties: Provides advanced life support services & renders medical treatment in emergency situations; engages in fire suppression & fire prevention activities to protect & safeguard lives & property. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: National Registry or Kansas Paramedic certification & maintain certification including current Advanced Pediatric Life Support Certification & ACLS; Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within prior year; current written Fire Service Exam with a score of 70% or better within the prior two years; Firefighter 1 & 2 with Hazmat Operations certifications in the State of Kansas or equivalent International Fire Service Training Association with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Certification; NIMS 100,200,700,800. Requirements: Must be eighteen (18) years of age at time of appointment; must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B driver’s license, or obtain within (1) one year of appointment; must pass the city’s pre-employment requirements relative to background check, pre-employment physical, & drug screening prior to final job offer. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Pay: $44,583-71,198/yr.

POLICE OFFICER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salina’s diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one year of appointment. Selection process includes: Written test, two assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Written test is held the 3rd Saturday of each month. Starting pay: $42,430/yr.

FIREFIGHTER/EMT
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department-Duties: Responds to fire alarms & other emergency calls to protect life & property by combating, extinguishing & preventing fires; gives basic life support care to sick or injured persons; participates in fire prevention programs, inspection, training activities, maintenance of fire & EMS apparatus & equipment & stations. BUILDING INSPECTOR III/COMMERCIAL PLANS EXAMINER
Application deadline: Until filled-Development Services-Duties: Reviews building plan submittals & performs inspections to ensure compliance with building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire codes, accessibility codes & related ordinances. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; Construction Science degree; Building Inspector or Plans Examiner certification by the ICC preferred or able to obtain within one year from date of employment; minimum of two certifications by ICC or IAPMO as a building, plumbing, mechanical or electrical inspector and/or a master plumbing, mechanical or electrical license based on passage of combination commercial inspector certifications or successful completion of general contractor testing prior to appointment. Experience: Minimum five years of building inspection or plan review work; general knowledge of building & fire codes required; ability to read & comprehend blue prints; basic computer skills. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $19.55-24.03/hr.

WATER PLANT SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Duties: Supervises the operation & maintenance of the City of Salina’s Water Treatment Plant. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; must obtain Kansas Class IV Water Supply System Operator Certificate within one year of KDHE exam eligibility. Experience: Five years of experience in lime softening water treatment or related work preferred; two years supervisory experience. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $19.55-31.20/hr.

UTILITY WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Pay: $16.09/hr.

WATER PLANT OPERATOR I
Application deadline: Until filled–Utilities-Duties: Performs skilled work in the operation of an advanced water treatment plant & operation of related equipment; monitors & operates motors, pumps, chemical feeders & related equipment; operates valves; utilizes monitoring equipment & records information shown; keeps daily log of shift operations; collects samples for laboratory tests & assists with analysis; performs preventive maintenance on equipment; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting & mowing; receives & addresses customer concerns. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must possess Kansas Class I Water Supply System Operator Certificate within one year of KDHE exam eligibility. Experience: Two years in maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Works on shift: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; midnight to noon; noon to midnight. Pay: $16.09/hr.

DISPATCHER
Application deadline: TH 03/29/2018-Police Department-Duties: Responsible for dispatching all police, sheriff, fire, & ambulance operations in the city & county; operates a two-way communications system; monitors a computerized emergency system; types a variety of data into a computerized database. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: In-service training program; typing speed 40 WPM minimum. Requirements: Must be minimum twenty-one (21) years of age; must live within 40 minutes response time; must successfully complete in-service training program in communications related curriculum; must pass selection process that includes assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, & thorough background checks. Hours: Twelve hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with every other weekend off. Starting pay: $15.35/hr. LANDFILL OPERATOR II
Application deadline: TH 03/01/2018 by 5:00 p.m.-Duties: Skilled work in horizontal construction; performs duties in the operation of the City of Salina’s Municipal Landfill; provides over-site of the facility & crew in the absence of a supervisor; operates compactors, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, self-propelled scrapers & similar equipment at the municipal solid waste landfill & in various assignments; performs manual labor; assists in planning fill cells; moves, levels, compacts & covers solid waste at landfill; looks for & prevents hazardous waste from entering into landfill; mows grounds; maintains landfill roads; extinguishes fires at landfill; performs maintenance checks on equipment; makes repairs to equipment; welds; prepares minimal records of own activities, including burial logs & special wastes; operates the scale house as assigned. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Three years of progressively responsible construction & maintenance work operating light & medium equipment with one year of experience operating heavy equipment; basic computer skills; ability to operate office machines such as credit card machines. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL), or obtain within three months from the date of appointment. Hours: Shifts rotate quarterly. Pay: $14.61-23.34/hr.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECH II
Application deadline: TH 03/01/2018-Parks & Recreation/Buildings-Duties: Supervises small group of workers in field as assigned; performs manual labor, painting, concrete work & maintenance of public buildings; installs equipment; operates vehicles; performs carpentry work, repairs & installations repairs broken windows; conducts electrical work in the maintenance of existing wiring, conduit, outlets & switches; maintains & services boilers; services furnaces & air conditioning units including computer operated control systems; performs plumbing work in replacing & repairing plumbing fixtures & lines; performs custodial duties such as sweeping, scrubbing, stripping & waxing floors; dusts & polishes furniture & woodwork; washes windows & walls; cleans shop area; removes snow. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years of experience of progressively responsible work in building maintenance. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to more objects. Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Pay: $13.93-22.24/hr.

LANDFILL OPERATOR I

Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: One year sanitation work or experience with small trucks & light equipment in construction, maintenance, or related activities; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Pay: $13.25-21.15/hr.

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: TH 03/08/2018-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One year construction or maintenance work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements. Work Type: Very heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Workweek generally Monday - Friday. Pay: $12.62-20.15/hr.

SANITATION WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation- Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of solid waste; operates hydraulic equipment; loads sanitation, yard waste and/or recycling trucks; removes debris & trash from alleys & streets; maintains sanitation building; services & washes trucks & equipment; picks up, delivers & repairs refuse carts; interacts with public. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: Heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; constant walking & jogging. Hours: Monday – Friday; shift begins at 7:00 a.m. Pay: $12.04-19.23/hr.
