FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department- Duties: Provides advanced life support services & renders medical treatment in emergency situations; engages in fire suppression & fire prevention activities to protect & safeguard lives & property. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: National Registry or Kansas Paramedic certification & maintain certification including current Advanced Pediatric Life Support Certification & ACLS; Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within prior year; current written Fire Service Exam with a score of 70% or better within the prior two years; Firefighter 1 & 2 with Hazmat Operations certifications in the State of Kansas or equivalent International Fire Service Training Association with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Certification; NIMS 100,200,700,800. Requirements: Must be eighteen (18) years of age at time of appointment; must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B driver’s license, or obtain within (1) one year of appointment; must pass the city’s pre-employment requirements relative to background check, pre-employment physical, & drug screening prior to final job offer. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Pay: $44,583-71,198/yr.

POLICE OFFICER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salina’s diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one year of appointment. Selection process includes: Written test, two assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas driver’s license. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Written test is held the 3rd Saturday of each month. Starting pay: $42,411/yr.

FIREFIGHTER/EMT
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department-Duties: Responds to fire alarms & other emergency calls to protect life & property by combating, extinguishing & preventing fires; gives basic life support care to sick or injured persons; participates in fire prevention programs, inspection, training activities, maintenance of fire & EMS apparatus & equipment & stations. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. RECREATION SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: TH 06/28/18-Parks & Rec.-Duties: Plans, organizes, coordinates, promotes, & supervises year round activities for youth & adults, including instructional programs, special events, athletics, camps & clinics & other leisure programs; may instruct classes & lead activities as needed. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, or related field; certification, or ability to obtain, certification as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is desirable. Experience: Organizing & coordinating recreation programs preferred; must be able to work varied hours for successful program oversight. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license; must live within 40-minutes response time. Pay: $35,214-56,202/yr.

WATER PLANT SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Duties: Supervises the operation & maintenance of the City of Salina’s Water Treatment Plant. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; must obtain Kansas Class IV Water Supply System Operator Certificate within one year of KDHE exam eligibility. Experience: Five years of experience in lime softening water treatment or related work preferred; two years supervisory experience. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $19.55-31.20/hr.

UTILITY TECH II-DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION OBSERVATION
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities- Duties: Performs technical engineering designs, construction observations, and GIS application duties; designs, surveys & observes construction for the installation of sanitary sewer, water mains, & other public utility projects; prepares conceptual designs & project estimates. Education: Associate’s degree in Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology, Geography with GIS certification, or related field. Experience: Two years technical civil engineering work and/or any combination of education or experience. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $17.77-19.90/hr.

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II (INSPECTION)
Application deadline: TH 06/28/208-Public Works/Engineering-Duties: Performs construction inspections; surveys & inspects for the installation of storm & sanitary sewer, water mains, street paving, bridges, sidewalks & other public works projects for compliance with approved plans & specifications; prepares periodic & final pay estimates for materials on hand & work completed; interprets construction plans to contractors; participates in traffic engineering investigations, studies & surveys; assures that traffic control devices are properly installed at construction sites; occasionally leads other workers. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D; some civil engineering or related course work; must be eligible to obtain certification from the Kansas Department of Transportation to perform construction inspection. Experience: Three years of work in engineering and/or drafting field. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas driver’s license; must possess a valid Kansas Class B driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement, or obtain within three months of appointment. Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pay: $16.09-25.66/hr.

UTILITY WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Starting pay: $16.09/hr.

DISPATCHER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Responsible for dispatching all police, sheriff, fire, & ambulance operations in the city & county; operates a two-way communications system; monitors a computerized emergency system; types a variety of data into a computerized database. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: In-service training program; typing speed 40 WPM minimum. Requirements: Must be minimum twenty-one (21) years of age; must live within 40 minutes response time; must successfully complete in-service training program in communications related curriculum; must pass selection process that includes assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, & thorough background checks. Hours: Twelve hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with every other weekend off. Starting pay: $15.35/hr. LANDFILL OPERATOR I
Application deadline: TH 06/28/2018-Public Works/Landfill-Duties: Performs skilled & semi-skilled work in the maintenance & operation of the City of Salina’s Municipal Landfill; operates & maintains medium & heavy equipment such as compactors, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, self-propelled scrapers & similar equipment; assists in planning fill cells; moves, levels, compacts & covers solid waste at landfill; looks for & prevents hazardous waste from entering into landfill; mows grounds; maintains landfill roads; extinguishes fires at landfill; performs maintenance checks on equipment & makes repairs; welds; prepares minimal records of own activities, including burial logs & special wastes. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Three years of progressively responsible construction & maintenance work operating light & medium equipment; one year of experience operating heavy equipment; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake & tanker endorsement, or obtain within three months from date of appointment. Hours: Shifts rotate quarterly. Pay: $13.25-21.15/hr.

SANITATION WORKER / DRIVER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: One year sanitation work or experience with small trucks & light equipment in construction, maintenance, or related activities; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Pay: $13.25-21.15/hr.

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One year construction or maintenance work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements. Work Type: Very heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Workweek generally Monday - Friday. Pay: $12.62-20.15/hr.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Application deadline: TH 06/28/2018-Arts & Humanities–Duties: Performs wide variety of clerical & administrative duties; assists with databases & recordkeeping; assists with Smoky Hill River Festival, Arts & Humanities, other projects & community relations functions. Education: High school graduate or G.E.D. Experience: Office management, typing, computers, database management & other clerical functions with at least four years of progressively responsible clerical work or experience in arts, education or related fields. Requirements: Strong, effective communications skills; must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Pay: $12.62-14.13/hr.
