PARK TECHNCIAN

POLICE DEPARTMENT
POLICE OFFICER

911 DISPATCHER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Responsible for dispatching all police, sheriff, fire, & ambulance operations in the city & county; operates a two-way communications system; monitors a computerized emergency system; types a variety of data into a computerized database. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: In-service training program; typing speed 40 WPM minimum. Requirements: Must be minimum twenty-one (21) years of age; must live within 40 minutes response time; must successfully complete in-service training program in communications related curriculum; must pass selection process that includes assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, & thorough background checks. PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works- Duties: Directs, manages & coordinates the City of Salinas Public Works department comprised of seven operating divisions including Central Garage, Engineering, Flood Control, Landfill, Sanitation, Streets & Traffic Control. Education: Bachelors degree in civil engineering, business administration, public administration, or closely related field; a masters degree may be substituted for some work experience; registration as a Professional Engineer in Kansas preferred but not required. ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II
(Inspection / Design)
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Engineering-Duties: Performs inspections; surveys & inspects for the installation of storm & sanitary sewer, water mains, street paving, bridges, sidewalks & other public works projects for compliance with approved plans & specifications; prepares periodic & final pay estimates for materials on hand & work completed; interprets construction plans to contractors; participates in traffic engineering investigations, studies & surveys; assures that traffic control devices are properly installed at construction sites; occasionally leads other workers. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D; some civil engineering or related course work; must be eligible to obtain certification from the Kansas Department of Transportation to perform construction inspection. Experience: Three (3) years of work in engineering and/or drafting field. ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION & ENFORCEMENT COORDINATOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Oversees the education & enforcement of sanitation guidelines; performs inspections of refuse routes; meets or speaks with customers to help ensure successful collection operations & compliance of cart placement & waste disposal requirements; writes grant applications; designs & develops educational materials & advertising for the public using a variety of media regarding solid waste collection, recycling & related environmental programs; represents the City of Salinas refuse, recycling & other environmental initiatives at public promotional events. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; college degree preferred with emphasis in human relations, communications, environmental science or a related field; must be able to acquire & maintain KDHE approved 24 hour-training per K.A.R. 28-29-1102e certification for working at a HHW facility. LANDFILL OPERATOR I
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Landfill-Duties: Performs skilled & semi-skilled work in the maintenance & operation of the City of Salinas municipal solid waste landfill; operates & maintains medium & heavy equipment such as compactors, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, self-propelled scrapers & similar equipment; assists in planning fill cells; moves, levels, compacts & covers solid waste at landfill; looks for & prevents hazardous waste from entering into landfill; mows grounds; maintains landfill roads; extinguishes fires at landfill; performs maintenance checks on equipment & makes repairs; welds; prepares minimal records of own activities, including burial logs & special wastes; operates the scale house as assigned; performs data entry into the Waste Works program. Hours: 4 (10 hour days) & quarterly shift change (2-10.5 hour, 1-11 hour & 1-8 hour days). Starting pay: $15.59 - 17.46/hr. (Full pay range $15.59-24.89/hr.)

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of skilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies; snow & ice removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One (1) year construction or maintenance work preferred. SANITATION WORKER / DRIVER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks including refuse/recycling trucks & other trucks over 27 ton capacity; dumps refuse carts; lifts heavy cans of refuse; picks up brush with brush truck; makes special pick-ups for discarded furniture & other refuse; keeps track of time for billing customers; checks oil; washes trucks; performs minor repairs to equipment used; cleans inside of garage; makes repairs to refuse carts; prepares minimal records of own activities; supervises & uses equipment of materials requiring care to assure against breakdown; snow & ice removal. SANITATION WORKER I

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT II (PART-TIME)
Application deadline: TH 02/25/21-Public Works/Engineering-Duties: Performs wide variety of secretarial duties for City of Salinas Engineering Department; assists Administrative Assistant III as needed; functions as back-up to Administrative Assistant III in her absence; composes & types routine reports, requisitions, & correspondence; maintains departmental files; processes departments payroll, financial & operational records; prepares & mails bills & notices; assists in interviewing prospective employees & trains new employees; assists in preparation for meetings & hearings; schedules appointments & use of facilities; screens office walk-ins & telephone calls; handles & interprets engineering & technical materials; operates two-way radio, copy machine, adding machine, calculator, computer, telephone, fax & typewriter. UTILITIES DEPARTMENT
WATER PLANT SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: Until filled- Duties: Supervises the operation & maintenance of the City of Salinas Water Treatment Plant; performs a wide variety of work in the operation & maintenance of water treatment facilities, including lime softening water treatment plant, wells, booster pump stations, water storage facilities, & river intake; supervises 12-15 water plant operators & personnel; prepares employee shift schedules & work assignments; evaluates personnel performance as required; assists in preparing, analyzing, & filing of paper & digital operational, state, & federal reports; assists in long-range planning, budget preparation, & budget control; utilizes computer based software as necessary to complete assignments; administers safety program; investigates accidents & recommends preventative actions; acts as liaison with maintenance, laboratory, & operations personnel to assure the treated water meets established standards of quality.
