Arts & Humanities / Smoky Hill Museum

Curator of Collections & Research
Application deadline: TH 12/14/2017-Smoky Hill Museum-Duties: Performs all aspects of collections management; researches, catalogues & assists with preparation of artifacts for storage & exhibit; manages the use of the Museums cultural collection assuring that professional standards are maintained. Education: Bachelor of Arts in Museum Studies, History, or related field; some training in non-technical conservation measures. Experience: Three years in collections management field; knowledge of collections management software. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas drivers license. Work Type: Medium, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; may work evenings & weekends for special events. Pay: $34,528-38,671/yr.

Fire Department

Firefighter/Paramedic
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department-Duties: Provides advanced life support services & renders medical treatment in emergency situations; engages in fire suppression & fire prevention activities to protect & safeguard lives & property. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: Must be National Registry or State of Kansas certified & maintain certification as a Paramedic including PALS, ACLS, & NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B drivers license, or obtain within one year of appointment. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Pay: $43,709-69,801/yr.

Firefighter/EMT
Applications accepted for hiring pool- Fire Department-Duties: Responds to fire alarms & other emergency calls to protect life & property by combating, extinguishing & preventing fires; gives basic life support care to sick or injured persons; participates in fire prevention programs, inspection, training activities, maintenance of fire & EMS apparatus & equipment & stations. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: CPAT; Firefighter I & Firefighter II certified; Hazmat operations; National Registry or Kansas EMT certified & must maintain EMT certification; NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800. Requirements: Must be eighteen (18) years of age minimum; must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B drivers license, or obtain within one year of appointment. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Pay: $38,563-61,589/yr.

Police Department

Police Officer
Application deadline: Until filled-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salinas diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one year of appointment. Selection process includes: Written test, two assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas drivers license. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Written test is held the 3rd Saturday of each month. Starting pay: $41,600/yr.

Public Works Department

Landfill Supervisor
Application deadline: TH 12/21/2017-Public Works/Landfill-Duties: Supervises & performs skilled & semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction & operation of the City of Salinas Municipal Landfill; supervises the operation of the landfill in the Superintendents absence; acts as foreman over the landfill crew; supervises & performs maintenance & repairs to equipment; performs load inspections to prevent hazardous waste from entering the landfill; operates, services & repairs medium & heavy construction & maintenance equipment; assists with determining operations, scheduling & layout. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must possess a SWANA Landfill MOLO (Manager of Landfill Operations) certification, or be able to obtain. Experience: Five years of progressively responsible construction & maintenance work operating light & medium equipment; one year of experience operating heavy equipment; one year supervisory experience; working knowledge of landfill weighing & billing operations; ability to learn & operate the landfill scale house; working knowledge of computers & Microsoft Office & Outlook software programs; must have the ability to learn & operate landfill-specific software. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three (3) months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday Friday; shifts vary. Pay: $16.09-25.66/hr.

Sanitation Worker / Driver
Application deadline: TH 12/21/2017-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: One year sanitation work or experience with small trucks & light equipment in construction, maintenance, or related activities; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Pay: $12.99-20.15/hr.

Street Maintenance Worker
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One year construction or maintenance work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess Kansas Class B commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements. Work Type: Very heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Workweek generally Monday - Friday. Pay: $12.62-20.15/hr.

Sanitation Worker I
Application deadline: Until filled-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of solid waste; operates hydraulic equipment; loads sanitation, yard waste and/or recycling trucks; removes debris & trash from alleys & streets; maintains sanitation building; services & washes trucks & equipment; picks up, delivers & repairs refuse carts; interacts with public. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: Heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older; must possess valid Kansas drivers license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; constant walking & jogging. Hours: Monday Friday; shift begins at 7:00 a.m. Pay: $11.80-17.36/hr.

Utilities Department

Utility Worker I
Application deadline: Until filled-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid a Kansas Class A commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three months of appointment. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Pay: $15.77/hr.

Water Plant Operator I
Application deadline: Until filledUtilities-Duties: Performs skilled work in the operation of an advanced water treatment plant & operation of related equipment; monitors & operates motors, pumps, chemical feeders & related equipment; operates valves; utilizes monitoring equipment & records information shown; keeps daily log of shift operations; collects samples for laboratory tests & assists with analysis; performs preventive maintenance on equipment; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting & mowing; receives & addresses customer concerns. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must possess Kansas Class I Water Supply System Operator Certificate within one year of KDHE exam eligibility. Experience: Two years in maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas drivers license. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Works on shift: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; midnight to noon; noon to midnight. Pay: $15.77/hr.
