FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department- Duties: Provides advanced life support services & renders medical treatment in emergency situations; engages in fire suppression & fire prevention activities to protect & safeguard lives & property. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification Requirements: National Registry or Kansas Paramedic certification & maintain certification including current Advanced Pediatric Life Support Certification & ACLS; Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within prior year; current written Fire Service Exam with a score of 70% or better within the prior two years; Firefighter 1 & 2 with Hazmat Operations certifications in the State of Kansas or equivalent International Fire Service Training Association with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Certification; NIMS 100,200,700,800. Requirements: Must be eighteen (18) years of age at time of appointment; must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class B drivers license, or obtain within (1) one year of appointment; must pass the citys pre-employment requirements relative to background check, pre-employment physical, & drug screening prior to final job offer. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Pay: $44,583-71,198/yr.

POLICE OFFICER
Application deadline: Until filled-Police Department-Duties: Protecting, serving, & working with Salinas diverse citizenry & enforcing the law while protecting the constitutional rights of all. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Qualifications include: United States citizen; twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; no felony convictions, domestic violence related conviction, or other serious misdemeanor convictions; good physical condition; eyesight: 20/100 correctable to 20/20, no upper acuity limit with contact lenses; ability to obtain Kansas Police Officer certification within one year of appointment. Selection process includes: Written test, two assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, thorough background check, physical examination, & drug screen. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess valid Kansas drivers license. Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job. Written test is held the 3rd Saturday of each month. Starting pay: $42,411/yr.

FIREFIGHTER/EMT
Applications accepted for hiring pool-Fire Department-Duties: Responds to fire alarms & other emergency calls to protect life & property by combating, extinguishing & preventing fires; gives basic life support care to sick or injured persons; participates in fire prevention programs, inspection, training activities, maintenance of fire & EMS apparatus & equipment & stations. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. UTILITY TECHNICIAN II (Design/Construction Observation)
Application deadline: TH 10/25/2018-Utilities- Duties: Performs technical engineering designs, construction observations, and GIS application duties; designs, surveys & observes construction for the installation of sanitary sewer, water mains, & other public utility projects; prepares conceptual designs & project estimates. Education: Associates degree in Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology, Geography with GIS certification, or related field. Experience: Two years technical civil engineering work and/or any combination of education or experience. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. Pay: $17.77-19.90/hr.

GIS/UTILITY TECHNICIAN
Application deadline: TH 10/25/2018-UtilitiesDuties: Performs technical work in the maintenance & updating of GIS mapping & as-built utility maps; prepares routine drawings & maps; maintains water & sewer system models; performs data collection, data entry, maintenance & updating of GIS mapping; assists with survey & design of utility projects; locates water & wastewater pipelines in the field; assists plumbers & others in researching sewer/water files/records. Education: Technical school graduate. Experience: Two years of experience in drafting (Auto Cad preferred); familiarity with Utilities design & Utilities system modeling preferred. Must have knowledge of surveying, mathematics, & land records; knowledge & understanding of GIS hardware & software operations; understanding of personal computers, plotters, printers & associated hardware & software. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas drivers license. Pay: $17.77/hr.

UTILITY WORKER I
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Performs semi-skilled & skilled labor in the maintenance & operation of a water distribution & transmission system/wastewater collection system; performs minor electrical & mechanical maintenance; maintains wastewater pumps, motors & controls; installs, repairs, cleans, taps, fits & inspects wastewater/water pipelines; installs & repairs wastewater/water valves, manholes, & fire hydrants; installs & repairs chemical feed pumps & piping; performs custodial work such as cleaning, painting, lawn mowing & snow removal. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years maintenance of mechanical & electrical equipment, or related work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas Class A commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements, or obtain within three months of appointment. Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. & after-hours calls. Starting pay: $16.09/hr.

ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER
Application deadline: TH 10/25/2018-Parks & Recreation/Animal Shelter-Duties: Enforces & applies ordinances & regulations pertaining to animal control; maintains the animals housed at the Salina Animal Shelter; investigates & conducts interviews on possible law, ordinance & regulation violations; testifies in court & at hearings on animal control matters; conducts inspections of animal facilities; issues licenses & permits for dogs & cats; provides public education on ordinances, regulations & animal care methods/techniques; apprehends stray animals; conducts various tasks in animal care and control. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must obtain Level I & II National Animal Control Association Academy training. Experience: One year animal care experience in animal shelter, veterinary clinic, animal hospital, or other related area & strong customer service skills preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. Hours: Shifts vary: 4 x 10 hour shifts/week including nights, weekends & holidays; shifts may start at 5 am & responds to overnight calls. Pay: $14.61-16.36/hr.

MAINTENANCE WORKER II
Application deadline: TH 10/18/2018- Public Works/Flood Control- Duties: Performs a variety of skilled & semi-skilled work in the operation, repair & maintenance of the levee system & ancillary flood control structures & facilities; operates, services & maintains light & medium equipment; performs minor welding; services & maintains flood control sluice, flap gates, & pumps; performs some concrete work & plumbing repairs; cleans, repairs & maintains ditches, flumes & drainage channels; maintains ponds, rip-rap & other areas; assists in hike & bike trail maintenance; applies pesticides; mows levee & trims trees, grass, weeds & shrubbery. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years of progressively responsible work in the construction, maintenance & repair of public facilities or similar activities. Requirements: Must live within a 40-minute response time; must possess a valid Kansas CDL Class B drivers license with air brakes & tanker endorsements. Pay: $13.93-22.24/hr.

SANITATION WORKER / DRIVER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Sanitation-Duties: Performs heavy manual labor in the collection of refuse and/or recycling materials; operates medium equipment & heavy duty trucks. Education: Eighth grade graduate. Experience: One year sanitation work or experience with small trucks & light equipment in construction, maintenance, or related activities; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; heavy manual labor & outside work experience desired. Requirements: Must possess valid Kansas Class B commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; must be able to perform heavy manual labor & run designated routes; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Work Type: Heavy manual labor, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds for force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Pay: $13.25-21.15/hr.

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER
Application deadline: Until filled-Public Works/Streets & Traffic-Duties: Performs a variety of unskilled & semi-skilled manual labor in the construction & maintenance of streets, storm sewers, buildings & other municipal facilities; drives various types of trucks & operates light construction equipment; lays & rakes asphalt; performs & assists in carpentry, including construction of forms, concrete work, painting & minor welding; responds to weather & other emergencies. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: One year construction or maintenance work preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess Kansas Class B commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brakes & tanker endorsements. Work Type: Very heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Hours: Workweek generally Monday - Friday. Pay: $12.62-20.15/hr.

CUSTOMER ACCOUNT CLERK
Application deadline: TH 10/18/2018-Water Customer Accounting-Duties: Performs general office duties for the Water Customer Accounting Department including data entry, typing, filing, basic bookkeeping, & cashiering; position requires continual contact with utility customers making service requests; receives customer service requests & enters data on computer; answers inquiries & provides customer service in-person & via telephone; processes payments & answers general questions. Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Two years of experience in bookkeeping, clerical, & customer service work preferred; must have excellent telephone communication skills & the ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy office; must type accurately at, or above, 40 words per minute. Hours: Monday Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Pay: $12.04-13.49/hr. ANIMAL CARE ASSISTANT (PART-TIME)
Application deadline: TH 10/25/2018-Parks & Recreation/Animal Shelter Duties: Under general supervision maintains the animals housed at the Salina Animal Shelter & performs reception duties as needed to serve citizens. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Hours: 10-30 hours per week; hours vary from mornings to early evenings & include weekends & public holidays. Pay: $8.75-10.50/hr.
