PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT
ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER
Application deadline: TH 08/27/2020-Parks & Recreation/Animal Shelter-Duties: Enforces & applies ordinances & regulations pertaining to animal control; maintains the animals housed at the Salina Animal Shelter; investigates & conducts interviews on possible law, ordinance & regulation violations; testifies in court & at hearings on animal control matters; conducts inspections of animal facilities; issues licenses & permits for dogs & cats; provides public education on ordinances, regulations & animal care methods/techniques; apprehends stray animals; conducts various tasks in animal care and control. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.; must obtain Level I & II National Animal Control Association Academy training. Experience: One (1) year animal care experience in animal shelter, veterinary clinic, animal hospital, or other related area & strong customer service skills preferred. Requirements: Must live within 40-minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas drivers license. Hours: Shifts vary: 4 x 10 hour shifts/week including nights, weekends & holidays; shifts may start at 5 am & responds to overnight calls. Starting pay: $15.28-17.11/hr. Application deadline: TH 08/20/2020-Parks & Recreation/Buildings- Duties: Performs janitorial duties inside & outside city buildings & other public facilities; cleans, maintains, sweeps, scrubs, strips & waxes hard surfaces; minor construction & maintenance of facilities & outdoor spaces; maintains equipment & materials; performs visual checks for repairs on all mechanical systems, buildings, & grounds; washes windows & walls; dusts & polishes furniture, sills, blinds, woodwork, light fixtures, etc.; vacuums, shampoos, removes spots & stains in carpets; replaces light bulbs & fluorescent tubes; empties & cleans waste receptacles; cleans & disinfects restrooms & kitchens; cleans grounds by picking up paper & trash; must raise, lower & maintain flags; shovels snow as assigned; locks & unlocks doors, windows & security systems; maintains inventory of cleaning equipment & supplies. Requirements: Must be minimum twenty-one (21) years of age; must live within 40 minutes response time; must successfully complete in-service training program in communications related curriculum; must pass selection process that includes assessment interviews, psychological evaluation, computer voice stress analyzer examination, & thorough background checks. Hours: Twelve (12) hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with every other weekend off. Starting pay: $16.04-17.97/hr. (Full pay range: $16.04-25.60/hr.) PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
LANDFILL OPERATOR I
Application deadline: TH 08/20/2020-Public Works/Landfill-Duties: Performs skilled & semi-skilled work in the maintenance & operation of the City of Salinas municipal solid waste landfill; operates & maintains medium & heavy equipment such as compactors, dozers, motor graders, front-end loaders, self-propelled scrapers & similar equipment; assists in planning fill cells; moves, levels, compacts & covers solid waste at landfill; looks for & prevents hazardous waste from entering into landfill; mows grounds; maintains landfill roads; extinguishes fires at landfill; performs maintenance checks on equipment & makes repairs; welds; prepares minimal records of own activities, including burial logs & special wastes; operates the scale house as assigned; performs data entry into the Waste Works program. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible construction & maintenance work operating light & medium equipment; one (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment; must be able to work outside in all weather conditions; must have ability to operate office machines such as a credit card machine. Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas Class B commercial drivers license (CDL) with air brake & tanker endorsement, or obtain within three (3) months from hire date. DEPUTY UTILITIES DIRECTOR
Application deadline: Until filled-Utilities-Duties: Acts as Director of Utilities in Directors absence; oversees & manages the operations of water (distribution & treatment) & wastewater (collection & treatment) systems under the direction of the Director of Utilities; supervises staff; performs engineering & financial analysis; assists with preparation of operating & capital budgets; reviews engineering submittals; gathers & maintains information to support periodic & special reports; attends or conducts staff, committee, & other professional meetings; makes presentations to City Commission & other boards & commissions; serves on the Citys Development Review Team (DRT). WATER PLANT SUPERVISOR
Application deadline: Until filled- Duties: Supervises the operation & maintenance of the City of Salinas Water Treatment Plant; performs a wide variety of work in the operation & maintenance of water treatment facilities, including lime softening water treatment plant, wells, booster pump stations, water storage facilities, & river intake; supervises 12-15 water plant operators & personnel; prepares employee shift schedules & work assignments; evaluates personnel performance as required; assists in preparing, analyzing, & filing of paper & digital operational, state, & federal reports; assists in long-range planning, budget preparation, & budget control; utilizes computer based software as necessary to complete assignments; administers safety program; investigates accidents & recommends preventative actions; acts as liaison with maintenance, laboratory, & operations personnel to assure the treated water meets established standards of quality.
