Metal Fabricator

Job Description:

Job Purpose: Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing duties on the following machines such as but not limited to; Saw Operator, CNC Lathe, CNC Mill, Manual Lathe/Manual Mill, Drilling/Lay-Out, Press Brake-Sheet Metal, and Plasma Table.

Essential Functions
1.Plans, layouts, and fabricates metal parts, equipment, and products.
2.Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
3.Laying out and marking dimensions and reference lines on material, using scribers, dividers, squares, and rulers, applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product or parts or using templates.
4.Set up and operation of fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials. Shapes metal material over anvil, block, or other form, using hand tools. Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces, using hand tools and portable power tools. Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds component parts to assemble products, using hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
5.Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
6.Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Secures tools, materials, and equipment at end of day.
7.Contributes to team effort by actively participating in team meetings.
8.Ensures work orders are properly followed and completed in a timely fashion.
9.All other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities
1.General maintenance on equipment, help with grounds maintenance, and organizing and cleaning the shop.

4.A minimum of one to three years welding, machine shop, fabrication, or other related experience generally required.
5.High school diploma or equivalent.

7.Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers, management, vendors, suppliers, and customers.
8.Ability to read and interpret documents such as job orders, procedure manuals, and schematics (blue prints).
9.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
10.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
11.Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
12.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
13.Ability to use hand tools.
14.Excellent mechanical aptitude
15.Ability to use power tools, such as drill and saw.
16.Willingness to cross-train and learn to operate all machines located in fabrication department.
17.Ability to use forklift.
18.Ability to use department equipment such as ladder/scaffold, 2-way radio, overhead crane, and telephone.
